Composure is the combined talents of Nicholas Buc and Hugh Crosthwaite who have come together to focus on creating a unique musical voice for film, television and other multimedia projects. Having worked extensively in classical, orchestral, rock, jazz, pop, avant-garde and electro-acoustic music, Composure prides itself on its broad musical diversity. The group is dedicated to writing with a refined sense of craft and technique, and are passionate in striving for excellence in each project they undertake.
Nicholas Buc (B.Mus, A.Mus.A.) is a composer, arranger, conductor, violinist and pianist. He studied Composition with Professor Brenton Broadstock at the University of Melbourne, where he received the inaugural Fellowship of Australian Composers Award. As well as being in demand as a freelance composer and arranger, Nicholas teaches Composition at Scotch College, Hawthorn.
His music has been performed by the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir, The Australian Voices (2005 Composer-in-Residence) and Concordis, the 2006 ABC Classic FM Victorian Choir of the Year. In 2007 her was nominated for "Best Original Song Composed for the Screen" in the APRA-AGSC Screen Music Awards
Nicholas has worked with Tina Arena on her last two Australian tours, as both concertmaster & conductor/arranger, where he wrote new orchestral arrangements for many of her old hits. He also provided the score for Almost Maine, the first ever live-theatre piece to be performed at Village Cinemas, Jam Factory. His other theatre forays include being Musical Director for Windmill Theatre Company in 2005, where he received both a Lyrebird and Music Theatre Guild nomination for Best Musical Director.
Hugh Crosthwaite (B.Mus) is a composer, arranger, producer and sound engineer. He is also an alumni of the
As a composer he has most recently been engaged by the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, the Banyule Symphony and the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra percussion section for commissions which were met with acclaim; however the bulk of his work has been producing bands, some of whom have gone on to sign with major labels as a result of his work.
