This national media organisation has grown from a single radio service into a multi-platform media operation providing television, radio, online and mobile services throughout metropolitan and regional Australia, as well as overseas, operating in a rapidly changing environment unlike that ever experienced before.
Consequently, the Division had a need to review its operating model, and its strategy for the next three years, in a way that engaged the staff in the vision and strategy and created a greater sense of ownership amongst staff. Achieving this would shift the culture within the Division.
Designing the Solution
As part of Composure’s strategic model, we designed and led four workshops with all staff to identify the challenges facing the Division in the current environment, the implications for how the division operates now and in the future, and the current and the ideal culture required to deliver these services. An important element of the design was the engagement of all staff in an assessment of the challenges facing the sector, and this Division in particular, and empowering them to devise the solution to these challenges.
Following these initial workshops, a working group consisting of representative employees was formed, and Composure facilitated a series of working sessions with this group to help them develop the strategic vision and priorities for 2020. Concurrently with the facilitation of the working group, Composure also provided a series of Team Coaching sessions to the Leadership Team to support them in leading the change, and enable them to lead by example.
As a result of the work with Composure, the Division created a Strategic Vision for 2020 that was owned and endorsed by all staff. As a consequence, staff were significantly more engaged in their work, and morale was significantly improved. Staff were more focused on the future and the role they will play in the organisation’s success.
